Is the Director's Cup streak a little bit misleading in that no school in the country plays as many sports as Stanford?  Or are the other schools in contention playing as many as Stanford?

In the aggregate, it is a bit clouded but not misleading. When one compares another university's teams vs Stanford using only the other school's NCAA teams, we still tend to beat their overall score. I made this calculation last year when the Oregon AD claimed The Ducks had the best score of schools fielding only 18 or fewer NCAA teams.
