I agree, stupac2, the AP courses weren't all that hard. The amount of homework assigned for them might be increasing though. And heaven forbid that you live in the northeast and lose several days worth of school, ruining your AP test preparation...that was one of the first remarks from my calculus BC teacher that opened my eyes to the unfairness of a national test policy. AP test dates don't move for anyone, so if you lose a week of school due to snow, you've just lost a week of material and preparation.
I think it's more the peer group than the parental pressure. My parents were as tough on me as any tiger parent, but I didn't feel like I had to "eat or be eaten" amongst my friends. Perhaps a spirit of cooperation rather than competition would help. Much easier said than done.
