At the 2014 NCAA men's golf championship, Stanford had the low 54 hole score and was the #1 seed heading into match play.  If the old format had been in place (72 holes of stroke play), Stanford would have been in good shape to win it all.  But they lost in the semis to Oklahoma State. 

Less than a year later, the new women's format leads to a Stanford NC.  In the old days, U$€ would already have the hardware and Stanford would have felt good about a 4th place result. 

As a golf fan, I really like the new format because of the drama it produces.  Nothing can be more exciting in golf than team match play events.  As a Stanford fan, I LOVE the new format!  All right now!!

At points the last couple of days, what with the weather and all, my kindest description of this format was a death march twice-warmed over, but I agree, you really can't get more exciting than this.

And, I'd like to second Chicard - a BIG thanks to those of you who provided the running commentary throughout the championship, especially today!
