Director's Cup hypothetical*
School A wins the Director's Cup by 20 points. School B comes in second. 20+ years later, a scandal erupts regarding pervasive academic fraud infecting multiple sports for many years at School A. Based on the findings of an NCAA investigation, it is determined that a number of players on School A's teams were ineligible, and, as a result, the wins by School A's teams wins are vacated. If the Director's Cup were re-scored with School A the losing points scored by the teams that had their wins vacated, then School B would have more total points.Â
Questions:
Does School A have the Director's Cup vacated? (I think yes)
Does School B win the Director's Cup retroactively? (I think no)
*Note: Of course, I am referring to UNC's win in the first year of the Cup. I would like to be able to say that no other school has ever won the Cup, even if I have to put an asterisk at the end of that sentence.
