I very much doubt that Nicklaus would have conceded that putt if the rules of the Ryder Cup required that they then had to go to the 19th hole to settle the match....

In truth I would have thought the sequence would have been for Davis to make her putt and THEN concede the Stackhouse putt.  This way if Davis misses here putt Stackhouse putts to win.  Much cleaner result with the winner needing to complete a successful action.  And if Davis makes her putt she concedes Mariah's putt at that point and they move to hole 20.

I suspect Davis thought she would make her that 4' putt and didn't really worry about all of that.  30 minutes later at the awards ceremony it seemed clear that Davis had not really thought much about losing that way.  Felt sorry for her, but that's the nature of sports.
