My high school track coach ran on the relays with Smith and Carlos.Â Great guy, learned a lot.Â We were doing drills that were way advanced for high schoolers in the 1970s, like Gerard Mach's tempo drills (Polish sprinter, former Canadian track coach).Â We were a tiny school (about 15 guys on the track team), but we were winning 4x100 relays with two sprinters, a pole vaulter and (no kidding) a shot putter.
