I wondered about the bamboo ceiling in public schools, actually.Â
Back before they removed it, the University of California system gave normal humans access to admissions data by year, ending in about 2011. one of the criteria was ethnicity, and I seem to recall that applicants of Asian descent had to get a slightly higher gpa, about .1. And as of 2010, Asian undergraduates outnumbered Caucasian undergraduates at every campus except Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz and UC-wide by a 68:55 ratio. From 2007 to 2009, undergraduate degree recipients according to the ca.gov site were 34.64% of Asian descent (Asians are 11.55% of California's population) and 39.99% of Caucasian descent (Caucasians are 33.54% of California's population).
I responded to a private message from a poster who asked about my forensics comment above. Out of curiosity, I looked at my son's high school site. Two years ago, they had six speech/debaters finish first or second at the national finals, and oddly enough, there were three Asian or Indian kids and three Caucasian kids. The Asian/Indian kids went to Harvard, Stanford and UC bzrkly. The three Caucasian kids went to UC bzrkly, Santa Clara and a theological seminary. Just an interesting point.
