My wife is Taiwanese American and I'm white, and we recently had our first child. For a variety of reasons, we decided to give our daughter my wife's last name, rather than mine. This led several of our Asian American friends to voice concern that college admissions will be more difficult for her since she has my wife's last name. I think they're probably right about this, but it also seems sad and myopic to let that be a factor in the name you give your child.
