Mick:
I've got a LL All Star story from last night!
10-year old All Star game, one Palo Alto team against a team from Pacifica. It is the bottom of the sixth, and Pacifica is leading 22-5 (by some serious misfortune - especially for those of us playing in the next game - the Pacifica team led by only 9 after 4th and 5th innings, thus no mercy rule). A Palo Alto player attempts to score from second on a hit to the outfield, and there is a close play at the plate. The umpire calls the runner safe due to catcher interference (blocking the plate before he had the ball). I thought the kid was safe anyway, but whatever, that is a judgment call by the home plate ump. The Pacifica coach comes out to argue the call. That's when I had to give the guy some grief ("get back in the dugout coach!" "Only one more out to go!," "Look at the scoreboard!").Â
To no one's surprise, the final was 22-6.
