Here's a list of the Top 100 most violent cities (with 25,000 or more residents) as measured by violent crimes per 1,000 people annually.  Eight of the Top 100 are from California.  The national average of violent crimes is 3.86 per 1,000 people annually.  The position, city and # of crimes per 1,000 are listed below:

I included Detroit because I just moved there.  Pretty interesting, in a Mad-Max kind of way.  Heard a long series of popping noises the other night driving home on East Jefferson, which connects downtown Detroit to Grosse Pointe.  There's about an eight mile stretch of sketchy area, almost unbelievable to behold.

Mick, what moved you to Detroit? I was born there, and although we moved when I was in the third grade, I've got tons of family on both sides still there, so I'm back from time to time, most recently this past April. It's funny; the older I get, the more important it is to get back there...
