I grew up in the Central Valley and fully expected Fresno to make that list. Interestingly Fresno does not make an appearance while Stockton and Madera show up as #40 and #100 respectively. I've heard Fresno has cleaned up a little bit after making a run at California's murder capitol during the height of the gang violence and drug wars when it tended to be territory disputed by both Northern and Southern gangs.Â
