Later, as the Cardinal showed interest in his brother, Cam, Brennan got a message to Shaw through his mother. He wanted to finish his eligibility at Stanford.

"I backed away," Shaw said. "I said, 'Whoa. There's a lot that needs to happen before we can even talk about this seriously until there's some maintenance stuff completed.'"

So Brennan went through the process of graduating from Cal and finding, on his own, a graduate program at Stanford. He'll provide depth on the defensive line, and Shaw said the brother -- who committed and signed in February -- has promise for the future.
