So the team made him do Up and Down drills as punishment.  Humiliating, I would think, and obviously undermines his authority and respect.

Say what?  If a player were to show up sloshed for a team function and show the behavior that Sarkisian showed, the appropriate punishment would have been a suspension for violating team rules.  Up and Downs are what you do when a player arrives a few minutes late for practice, or takes a play off or something like that.  It seems like in this case the "punishment" meted by the team has no correlation to the severity of the offense.
