Nobody said Ca.l had a great defense or that they are otherwise a great team.  My point is they are way better than last year. 

While this definitely seems true, it is a historically low bar that cal has to clear here. They set the record for passing yards and passing tds allowed last year iirc. I thought their defense looked utterly terrible against WSU.
