Also in the Arizona game, after he reeled off another 65 yard TD, seems like there were late carries available that went to Wright, Love and McFadden.Â
I absolutely agree with the sentiment, particularly that Sanders likely would have felt pretty good about a 100 yard game vs OSU. And, Sanders definitely seems to be running stronger this year, my perception is he also has more decisive cuts (there is the counter that Sanders tends to get his carries pre-garbage time but post-defense is tired time - but I think it's true anyway).
The details get a little tricky.
In the final series vs OSU Sanders had 4 carries and McCaffrey had 4 carries. McCaffrey hit 200 yards exactly on the second carry. His final two were +7 and -1. Sanders four carries bookended the final two McCaffrey carries. There was a chance for two more carries after McCaffrey hit 200 yds, and given how things were going one would think that would have given him the extra 3 yards.
The imperative was a little different vs UA as 100 yards was not so immediately available. McCaffrey's final play was the last play of the third quarter. After that Stanford had three drives, a punt after a sack of Chryst, a TD, and running out the clock. There were a lot of carries: Wright with 7, Love with 2, Chryst with 1, Burns with 1, and McFadden with the three carries to run out the clock. On the one hand, I would have rather liked to have watched Sanders there - simply because I like watching him carry the ball. On the other hand, perhaps the message is that Sanders is a main-game player now not a garbage time guy. [Though I really think it more likely that the message was Sanders got good yards, now lets give Wright some.]Â
I basically agree with the sentiment, "I really wish they could find a way to get Barry J more touches" in a musing sort of way. It's just that given the actual options on the table, when push comes to shove, I don't think that I would actually advocate for a lot more touches.
