I suppose that might be true ... if you had any way to know the real reaction in the football offices. While it seems likely to be true, I am pretty sure Wilner is just making up that little factoid about stomach knots.
Obviously Wilner is just projecting what front offices would feel like. That being said, I think he's right, at least to the extent that fans reflect the feelings of football offices throughout the conferences. I don't recall a lot of hand wringing about the possibility of USC regaining its dominance when that coaching move was announced. And, in Washington, the mood was almost celebratory, and that was before they found out they hired Petersen. It was similar to the mood in Pitt when we hired Walt Harris, which, in retrospect, should have told us something.
