Very unusual for a Stanford defensive linemen to contribute as a true freshman; they're just not ready. 

If we burn a freshman DL's shirt, it's from desperation--e.g, Phillips.  And did burning his shirt, but not Thomas's, immediately signal that Solly was not the 4.8 star DL we had thought, and that Phillips was the superior prospect?  Not at all.
