Given McCaffrey's prodigious contributions on special teams and offense, it made sense for Shaw to get him off the field in situations that would not hurt the offense. Unfortunately for his statistics, the best situations were our goal line plays. Wright has special talent in goal-line situations, both leaping and bouncing, and everyone in the stadium knows what's going to happen (can you say JUMBO!!!). These are the perfect situations to pull McCaffery, giving him a break and minimizing exposure to the ligament tearing inertia inherent in those short yardage goal line plays. I'm certain McCaffery could be as effective as Wright, but why run that risk?Â
Most, it not all, of Wright's TD's could have gone to McCaffrey. But it was to the teams benefit to use Wright. Unfortunately, Voldemort voters may see his overall TD numbers as a negative. And if they do, the just werent paying attention.
Exactly. And reading McCaffrey's stats Sunday morning isn't the same as watching the games. Maybe his performance this year will get us more day games next year. Silver lining? On a seperate thought, I bet he puts on 8 - 10 lbs of muscle by the start of next season. Remember, he is not yet physically mature (by normal measures, which may not apply :). They boy/man has a ways to go.
