And the reason to delve is that while not all kickoff yards have value, the extra ones do; A 34 yard kickoff return, statistically, is worth a point. Until voters realize this, they'll treat special teams as "just plays that happened to happen," as if good returns are simple reflections of randomness and not worth valuing.
