Early, early, early.  Dry weather predicted means 1 million at the parade, most in cars, not public transportation.  Try to arrive at Rose Bowl about 10, no later than 11.  If you plan on watching the parade first, get there by 4 am.  Unless you have parking passes and grandstand seats.  If you're fit this is worth it.  America's parade, whether New York wants to admit it or not.
