The parade route is long, and the crowds get thinner as you get far from the start. If you have a car you can get up later and still have a decent view by driving to the second half of the parade route. Anywhere east of Hill St. should be fine. But know that the parade participants get tired so the bands and the dancers are not as dynamic.
You want to be on the south side of Colorado Blvd. so you're not squinting into the sun the whole time.
If you just want to see the floats, skip the parade and go check out the floats up close Thursday morning or in the two days following the parade.
