The Stanford Band is like SNL: so much potential but only hits its target a small percentage of the time.

I think a lot of comedy is like that.  If you watch four straight Monty Python shows, you would be amazed at how little actually hits the mark.  The "best of" stuff is amazing, but there are a lot of crickets.  Or alternatively, you could watch Dane Cook and never crack a smile at all.
