I'm sure that coaches are concerned about the issue you raise. But since coaches can do it (eg, Sark) and it regularly happens in the pros, there doesnt seem to be good reason to prevent an unpaid college student who has graduated from his school from attending and playing football at another school of his choosing. In balancing the hardships, I favor giving the student athlete the benefit of the doubt. That said, relationships matter. While we are glad that Scarlett made the decision he did (and kudos to the UCB admin for putting Scarlett's interests first, if they did in fact do so) he probably damaged his relationship with UCB and the guys he had played with on the team, and I think that is something that grad transfers might want to consider.
