When I am writing with intent and more concerned with all this, I find that if either of these issues arise, it is a red flag that I should probably find a different way to express the point.

Absolutely agree.  But of primary importance to me is the ability to clearly communicate.  If proper Grammer gets in the way, out it goes.  Ya know?
