First of all, I think some of this is, in fact, a desire to "spread the wealth". Keep in mind that this particular list had a separate award for "return specialist", so McCaffrey's "All Purpose" award reflects his versatility (running, receiving, and returning). Looking at the yards from scrimmage (rushing and receiving yards from the running back position), McCaffrey had 172 yards rushing, 105 yards receiving and 1 TD (receiving). Jefferson had 299 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns. Fournette had 212 yards rushing and 44 yards receiving and 5 touchdowns (4 rushing and 1 receiving).
Taking off my cardinal colored glasses, I think it is totally reasonable that Jefferson and Fournette were picked for the all-Bowl game running backs, and McCaffrey, who also had a great day returning the football, was picked for all-purpose.
Move along folks, there is nothing to see here. Instead of looking for ways our guys are slighted, we ought to be celebrating his phenomenal performance and be gratified that he earned recognition for it, whilst remembering that what ESPN publishes in a blog post to drive traffic is utterly meaningless.
