In my class at the GSB (40 years ago! yikes!), even then it was considered fairly unusual for admits to come straight out of undergraduate school. Lots with just a year or two of experience, but not many with none. I had been out of school five years, but my work experience was pretty bleagh -- because at that time a woman with a non-technical degree was usually asked how fast she could type. (Even some with technical degrees -- a classmate who was graduating in EE who was interviewing for a job was told by her totally befuddled interviewer, "well, this might work -- we need someone to bring the coffee for engineering meetings." Maybe he was kidding, but it didn't look to her as if he was. She eventually got a PhD in EE.)
