Obama himself,  in US Senate,  voted to STALL by his voting against motion of cloture on the nominations of BOTH Roberts and Alito whose nominations came up duringGeorge W Bush's lame duckery...

These days, starting with Bork,  Supreme Court nominations have ALL been about politics and posturing... even for Obama who  speaks out of both sides of his mouth

it all depends on whose ox is getting gored...
