The guy is a player. He will probably be in the NFL after 3-4 years of college ball. He isn't coming to Stanford to redshirt. He is coming because he wants the best of both worlds, top notch football and academics.  If he redshirts, he is missing out on the top notch college football part. His desire and efforts to attend Stanford are admirable, but let's not kid ourselves that he would come at the expense of being able to play football next year.
