I think when you look at a few games, or even one season, there can be shared responsibility between players and coaches.  That's what I think is the case in WBB.  However, in MBB we have seen a consistent pattern of inconsistency for several years, during which time the roster has completely turned over.  Clearly that means it is far less a function of the players and more the responsibility of the coaches.

Either way, it ultimately falls largely on the coaches.  They recruit and develop all of these players in practice and coach them during games.
