I wasn't there for the Miracle at Maples, but I was there for the Massacre at Maples, a result comparable to the "What's your deal?" game against the Trojans. On a day when nothing could go wrong for us, we beat Steve Lavin's Bruins 109-61. We opened the game on a 17-1 run and never looked back. Brevin went 6-7 from three points and had 25 points in 24 minutes. We were up by 41(!) after the first TV timeout in the second half, at which point Montgomery emptied the bench, with 15(!) minutes left. And we expanded the lead from their with our back-ups. It was the most lopsided loss ever for the Bruins and an absolute clinic in basketball.
Some games, "Miracle at Maples" or the "Greatest Upset Ever", you love because of the sheer improbability of the win; of a mediocre team beating one of the all-time greats. Other games, such as the last second Field Goal against USC or Notre Dame, or the "And He Was Fouled" game against Rhode Island (or the Robinson three pointer to win) are great because of the climactic last second win. Others, like the "What's Your Deal?" or Iowa Rose Bowl or the Massacre at Maples are fun just because everything goes right. That was one of those days.
