If I recall the Lorig situation correctly, Lorig's deadline to respond to the admissions office was May 2, the same deadline that applied to all admitted Stanford applicants. (May 1, the customary deadline, was a Sunday that year.) Lorig missed the May 2 deadline by two days. Stanford eventually excused his tardiness. I believe there was some kind of miscommunication with the Lorig family that caused Stanford to be lenient in that case.
