I think saying guys could rotate is coach speak in order to keep guys motivated especially the runner up in the QB competition. I wouldn't worry about Shaw forcing a second QB to play to the detriment of the team. He knows giving a new QB more reps will make that QB better. If it is truly a coin toss, one could argue to go with the younger QB, but I think Costello could influence that conventional thinking. If Costello gives the early impression that he has more upside than Chryst or Burns, he will still likely redshirt, but he could make it more likely to give the nod to Burns this year so it is easier for Costello to take it over in two years (his redshirt sophomore year after Burns graduates and while Chryst is a fifty year senior). Thus, two years of Burns starting and three years of Costello with Chryst being a 4 year back-up. I would still put money on Chryst winning the job this fall, but Costello could make the decision making process more complex even if he is destined to redshirt.
