I have never understood the Stanford obsession with joy re an opponent not being able to play. To be the best you need to beat the best. If OJ hadn't played in '68 a great game would have been an OK game and much less entertaining.

I don't think anyone here has expressed joy.  And it's not primarily because we want to beat them at their best but because decent human beings shouldn't be joyful about injuries and suffering of other human beings.

I think these posts on opponent attrition are a matter of fact--we certain post about our own as well.
