I wonder... Do we call Janet Evans a former Cardinal? I mean, I know she went to Stanford and competed for Stanford. I met her as an undergrad. She was really nice. She swam for Stanford for two years, I believe, but then transferred to Texas (she did not compete for them), then to US.C (nor for them), where she graduated. So she's an SC alum. Perhaps she is a Cardinal because that is the only NCAA team for which she competed?
Of course we can & should call her a former Cardinal. She was a Cardinal. I wouldn't call her a Stanford grad or a Stanford alumna.Â
More questionable is whether anyone should claim that she was a Stanford Olympian. In 1988, she had committed to Stanford but I believe she wasn't a student yet. In 1992, she was a former Cardinal.Â
Obviously, Katie Ledecky is in the same situation currently as Janet was in 1988. Stanford is claiming her, in a sense, as "incoming freshman".
Janet was interviewed on NBC Sunday night as part of the Olympics coverage, mostly regarding Katie, but also to get in some plugs for L.A. for the 2024 Olympics (she's has a position on the committee pushing for that). She was as articulate as always.

She doesn't note any of her colleges on either her web site or her Twitter profile. Interesting.
