Did you notice the frown on Simone's face at the end of the 4x100 Medley Relay?  I think she was hoping for a world record, but they were 1.08 behind.  Comparing to the WR of the 2012 US Team:

King had an impossibly "safe" start to her leg.  I think more than going for the WR, they were told to swim safe and win.  And since the 1000th gold medal for USA was in the realm on Saturday night try to get that medal in the pool.  May not have been the historic time or the history meet, but was still historic thanks to getting #1000.
