Nice article on Harrison Phillips -- driven guy, clearly: http://www.sfgate.com/collegesports/arti...144780.php
What does it mean to be "chipped" in the way he described?
[/quote]
A chip is a block usually executed by a RB or TE in the course of running a pattern; instead of fully engaging and trying to pancake the opponent, the RB/TE tries to knock the defender off balance before proceeding with his pattern. Sometimes the chipper contacts a defender who is already engaged with a lineman, which may result in a dangerous chop block, although that wasn't the case on the play that hurt Phillips.
