It sounds like Wilner heard Shaw say the same things I did in a post-practice interview. His tone is way more pessimistic than Shaw's was. Wilner certainly seems to be pretty dogmatic in his belief that if one guy doesn't clearly separate himself from the other guys with whom he's competing, it follows that they all suck. That can be true, but I think Stanford has recruited and developed players to perform well, long enough, to have earned the benefit of the doubt Wilner is hell bent against providing.

Since most of the pundits are pretty bullish on Stanford's prospects this year, Wilner may feel that he will get more attention (and mouse clicks) if he plays devil's advocate.
