I'm not a fan of having RA's police this ban, as I think it puts them in an awkward position with fellow students and will drive the drinking behind closed doors. As my son stated, it will come down to how focused the University will be on enforcement.  This is the pendulum swinging too far in my humble opinion.
It's not so much how far the pendulum is swinging, it the direction in which it's being re-routed. Maybe they should start by actually enforcing the rules already on the books - especially underage drinking. Tell the houses & dorms (greek and non-greek) that parties with alcohol will be monitored more aggressively and up the punishments significantly beginning with the first offense - banning alcohol, leaders put on probation/suspension, and potential to lose your house for multiple violations.
