I was particularly impressed with the defense last night. Yes, K-State was able to move the ball in the second half - between the 20s. In the red zone the Treefense was Treemendous. Holder needs to clean things up but otherwise that was a stellar performance for opening night.
From my five keys to a Natty post, I think we got 3 1/2 of them:
- OL: Concerned. They did NOT play well in the second half
- QB: Ladies & gentlemen, we have a starting QB. Chryst is clearly the backup.
- ILB: Nothing great, but nothing glaringly bad
- OLB: Kalambayi & Alfieri were both beastly last night
- Coverage sacks: The DBs were ridiculously good last night, and we had eight sacks? At least five of those were coverage sacks, maybe more
All in all, some things to work on, a solid win over a good team, and a whole heck of a lot better than last year's opener!
