Wilner offers his grade: a B-

It's a bit harsh, but not unfair. It was hardly a flawless game on our part, but it was a win over a decent P5 school. I do think his comments do not give the defense enough credit:
I mean, KSU isn't the most potent offense we will face all year, but eight sacks, two turnovers, and a safety is pretty darned good no matter who your opponent is. I doubt KSU will give up 8 sacks to any other team, and wile they might give up more turnovers, there won't be many games were they give up more. Bottom line, there's a pretty good chance that 13 points is KSU's low water mark, so I think the D deserves more credit than Wilner gave it.

Quote:The Cardinal kept KSU out of the end zone until the final minutes, had eight sacks, forced two turnovers and recorded a safety.
But much of that success was rooted in the Wildcats ineptitude. They lack a high-end playmaker and have little in the way of a downfield passing game to punish defenses for overplaying the run.
My guess is that Stanfords defense will be good-to-very good this season, depending on the health of the defensive line.
