Accuracy is definitely the reason why you don't see this as the typical onside kick strategy. Nailing someone who doesn't duck or catch it or move out of the way is hard. With that much velocity, if you don't hit the front line player, it is very likely that it will easily be picked up by another receiving player in good field position. Thus, the higher percentage move is a slowly kicked ball that doesn't go much beyond 10 yards that more of the kicking team can swarm.
