Well, the ridiculous thing about using preseason ballots to inform in-season ballots is when voters -- like Wilner, I believe -- justify rankings based on the difficulty of the schedule. This effectively punishes teams twice for scheduling tough -- once, in preseason, for scheduling hard; and the second time, when they lose the games they're implicitly expected to lose anyway.
