In 'n Out is very good for the money. However, I see it as bare minimum. Way better and better value than the likes of McD's but not comparable to some local chains and one-off fast casual places.
If you're in San Francisco, check out Super Duper burger, Whole Beast, Show Dogs and Popson's. Our suburban town in the east bay has two local places that make really good burgers, one of them with a large choice of local brews. With all the better quality local places available, I can't see going to Five Guys. Of course, that's just my taste. If I lived in a food desert, I probably would find Five Guys a great option.
