My guess is that plays are tied to personnel packages, and the specific route that Owusu runs is not necessarily one that JJAW devotes much time to practicing.  For something like the fade, where timing is everything, this could be important.

Better run the route that Burns/JJAW ran hundreds of times for the scout team and at practices/scrimmages.
