Burns was oblivious to the defender in his face. That defender should not have been in his face mind you, but Burns is sorely lacking in pocket awareness.
Scanning the field -- a trait Burns has yet to consistently demonstrate -- does more than simply help find a viable passing target. It also allows the quarterback to pick up defenders. Burns gets locked onto one target far too often. The reason he does that is because he's waiting for the selected receiver to get open, which in itself is a bad habit.
Burns makes pre-snap reads, but he so far hasn't demonstrated the ability to consistently deviate from those reads when the post-snap action dictates he should.
