I get that. But there are still ways of punishing a defense that's stacking the box. Stretch the field out using jet sweeps or reverses. (Bryce Love and Michael Rector are pretty good at this!)
Or try mixing it up -- throw on first and second down before you get behind schedule.
Not saying any of this magically wills a top-25 offense into being. I just would like to see something other than the bash-your-forehead-into-a-brick-wall-and-see-which-wins-first.
Also, what is with Stanford's addiction to shotgun runs? If you're not going to give the QB the ability to pull the ball -- which apparently ours don't, or rarely do -- then it's not a very good play.
