Yea, that's certainly the most well-known manifestation of S&M but not the only one.  The M / masochism part of the reference was intended to refer to the fans who continue to root for a team that the administration actively undermines, to mention nothing of failing to represent the Pac in the Rose Bowl for 58 years, or going 9-19 in Big Game since the last tie
