In terms of conference standings, Stanford is (and will remain) in sole possession of 5th place, with Washington, WSU, U$C, and Colorado all having only 1 or 2 conferences losses vs. Stanford's 3.
Stanford will most likely end up the 4th highest in the CFB rankings, behind Washington, U$C and Colorado (assuming the committee doesn't take excessive pity on Utah or WSU because they lost to quality opponents).
So if Washington goes to the Playoffs, then CO and U$C will likely take the Rose and Alamo.Â
That would leave WSU next up in the standings to take the Holiday Bowl, with Stanford in line for the Foster Farm Bowl. But...the Holiday would have the option to pick Stanford if they wanted, and I'd have to think they'd consider it. WSU would be unranked. Stanford will be ranked. WSU is 8-4 with a loss to an FCS team. Stanford is 9-3. WSU is on a 2-game skid. Stanford is on a 5 game tear. WSU has that flag at Gameday. Stanford has actual fans that go to bowl games, including many in the area. Stanford has Christian McCaffrey. WSU doesn't.Â
