We missed the '77 game (watched on TV), but attended the '96 and '09 games. After the '96 game we took our family (two young daughters) across the border and wandered around Juarez looking for some savory street vendor food, encountering players and their families doing the same. During the '09 game we looked across to the empty streets and bullet-marked walls of Juarez. At the shuttle bus stop people offered the unsolicited advice that if we crossed to Juarez we would be murdered.

I'm planning on skipping '16 if it happens.
