This job description is actually the same as was used for Giancarlo's contract (or very very close to it. I helped draft it in '13). This job was not intended to take over student management as the university is now expecting. It was intended to 1) find a director who would continue the relatively hands-off approach band actually wants on decision making, 2) make more contributions to improving the musicality of the organization than Giancarlo could ever be bothered to do (the search started when band rejected Giancarlo taking a massive salary from band endowments while providing minimal help to the band, even when asked repeatedly), and 3) take on some of the role handled by band's student affairs liason. With a decent, open-minded person in this role, the university could have supported and strengthened student management rather than usurping their roles.

There is plenty to be upset about, but this isn't it. This was part of a process by band and for band to improve its musicality.

If anything, it's proof that the students do care about improving the organization.
